Tree Removal | Felling & Dismantling

Removing a tree can be dangerous without correct training and the equipment to do so. Here at Orchard we are fully trained to fell and dismantle all shapes and sizes of tree. Some are felled in the traditional methods where the space and situation are available, most are climbed using ropes and harnesses, lowering equipment is used to safely dismantle them from top to bottom.

Crown Reductions

When your trees get too big one option is a crown reduction. The entire canopy of the tree is reduced by a percentage of its size, eg. 25%-30%. Every branch is accessed and cut back to leave the tree in its natural shape, just smaller.

Crown Reduction

Crown Cleaning

Crown cleaning involves accessing the canopy of your tree and clearing it out of everything that shouldn't be there, removing twisted and rubbing branches, diseased and dangerous limbs, and most importantly deadwood which posses a huge risk to anyone below.

Crown Thinning

Crown thinning is a practice similar to a crown reduction, the canopy is thinned of its branches by a percentage of its entirety. The major advantages to this practice is allowing more light to pass through the canopy onto the ground below, this allows better growing conditions underneath the tree and letting light into windows.

Crown Thinning

Crown Lifting

Crown lifting removes the lowest limbs of the canopy to balance its shape and size. Lifting can result in more clearance under the canopy as well as more light able to pass under.

Crown Lifting

Proximity Pruning

Proximity pruning removes unwanted and problem branches away from valuable objects, such as; buildings, aerials, chimneys, garages and cars.

Pollarding / Repollarding

Certain species of trees can be pollarded. This involves removing all branches to leave just the main structure of the stem for the tree to return and rejuvenate. Re-pollarding involves returning the new grown back to the previous pollard point for the cycle to start again.

Formative Pruning / Reshaping

Young trees and saplings need care and attention if they are to reach maturity. Formative pruning and reshaping removes the incorrect growth which can leave the specimen to grow unevenly and which will in turn lead to its demise before its time.

Trimming / Shaping

Certain species of tree respond to regular pruning which means they can be shaped. Round, square, cones, spiral, pyramids and much more can be achieved with the correct care and attention.

Windblown / Dangerous Trees

Unfortunately trees fall over sometimes, this is a unforeseen situation which just needs to be dealt with, also trees can fail partly resulting in it being in a dangerous state, when these need to be removed special care needs to taken to result in a safe takedown.

Insurance Work

When a tree does fall it rarely results in no damage happening, this is why we pay for insurance. We offer a full service from quote to finish, liaising with insurers and third parties fully to get the job done quick and with piece of mind.

Fruit Tree / Orchard Pruning

Fruit trees need specialist care and pruning knowledge to result in healthy and plentiful cropping.

Fungicide & Pesticide Applications

Chemicals have many applications, controlling weed growth, eradicating plants/grass/weeds and treating fruit trees to promote healthy fruit growth. We can offer many solutions to any problem.

TPO & Planning Applications

Tree Preservation Order's (TPO's) protect individual trees, groups of trees and woodlands, preventing any work being carried out on such trees without an authorised planning application. Orchard give free advise and can submit an application on your behalf.

Hedge Work

Trimming & Reshaping

We can trim most species of hedge to any shape and style back to the last time they were cut depending on how long they have been unattended.

Reductions

Reducing a hedgerow can be a little more full on, depending on the species you can pretty much cut it back to nothing to encourage new and fresh growth. Large reductions benefit a lot of situations, not just improving the health of the hedgerow but encouraging wildlife and generating a better lifestyle by letting more light and sky in.

Hedge Planting & Removals

We also fully remove hedgerows for numerous reasons, they can likewise be replaced with a brand new hedging systems or fencing. We use local companies to source all our plants, quality is key for plants and we trust our sources. We can also offer quotes for fencing using trusted local contractors to us, where we can liaise with them to match our schedule so we remove the hedge and the fence can go straight in.

Stump Removal

Stump Grinding

Stump grinders come in a variety of sizes for what is needed, they come with with specially equipped carbide teeth for working below ground level to grind away at the stump and turn it into dust. Its the most guaranteed way of removing the root bowl. Once removed we don't leave you with a hole but level it out and clear up nicely.

Excavation

Some stumps don't need a grinder or can't be accessed with one so digging is the only way. We generally use hand tools and winches but on occasion a digger may be called in to help if needed.

Chemical Treatment

When a tree is cut down it may start to grow again dependant on the species, if this is the case we can use a systemic killer to help break down the living cells and stop it from continuing to grow.
